African violets are the most popular flowering house plants in the world. They are particularly suitable for growing indoors because they normally thrive in conditions similar to those that are comfortable for people.

Growers of African violets on the NSW Central Coast meet monthly to share information and plants. Meetings are held in the Halekulani Bowling Club, 50 Natuna Avenue, Budgewoi, 2262, at 2.00 pm on the first Saturday of each month from February to December.

We welcome visitors who would like to come to a meeting to see how we function. For those who then wish to join, membership is $8.00 per year.

We will be holding our 2009 Annual Show at Mingara Recreation Club, Tumbi Umbi, on 24 & 25 October 2008. We expect to exhibit over 200 beautiful African violets and associated  gesneriad plants.

While African violets are ideal plants for growing indoors, the other gesneriad plants, which include Columneas (goldfish plant), Aeschynanthus (lipstick vine), Nematanthus (guppy plant), Sinningia (florist's gloxinias among others), chiritas, episcias and many others. Many are plants that you will never have seen before. While some can be grown in conjunction with African violets, there are others that make excellent garden plants.

Come along and see them. You won't be disappointed. There are even some of these plants for sale, alongside plenty of African violets to buy.
